PROJECTS

Start

Over the past ten years I have started a wide range of initiatives pushing the boundaries of heritage and technology. These projects explore issues that are close to me at both a personal and professional level. I embark on them as explorations and opportunities to learn and re-imagine the ways in which technology can be of service to African histories.

AFRICAN DIGITAL HERITAGE

FOUNDER/DIRECTOR: 2017 – PRESENT

African Digital Heritage (ADH) is a non-profit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya, dedicated to fostering a thoughtful and inclusive approach to digital technologies in the preservation and promotion of African histories and identities.

MUSEUM OF BRITISH COLONIALISM

CO-FOUNDER. 2018 – PRESENT

Museum of British Colonialism is a UK/Kenya volunteer collective working to elevate under-represented accounts of British colonial history. We use digital tools and digital media as the primary way to present, disseminate and explore colonial history in Kenya.

OPEN RESTITUTION AFRICA

CO-FOUNDER. 2020 – PRESENT

ORA is an Africa-led project seeking to open up access to information on restitution of African material culture and human ancestors, to empower all stakeholders involved to make knowledge-based decisions.

SAVE THE RAILWAY

Between 2012 and 2016, I traveled across Kenya to document the history of the Kenya–Uganda Railway, photographing stations in different parts of the country and recording memories associated with the railway. The project resulted in the documentation of more than 50 stations, as well as an exhibition, public talks, and a series of essays.
